Timing Gear – Timing gears, because the name implies, are utilized for various timing reasons. Also called synchronous gears, they could be either spur or helical gears. They are often found in automotive applications to control valve timing in engines.
Worm Equipment – A worm gear contains a worm and a worm wheel working with each other. The worm resembles a screw and is sometimes known as a worm screw, as the worm wheel appears comparable to a spur equipment or helical gear with a slight helix angle. This set is sometimes also known as a worm drive. Worm gears are the most compact kind of gear and so are often found in applications where space is bound.

Spur Equipment – Spur gears are the most common kind of gear. They are used to transmit movement between two parallel shafts and are known for being highly efficient and creating a lot of power. Spur gears are known by a number of other names including straight gears, straight-cut gears, spur wheels, and spur gearing. All of these have the same simple definition and can be used interchangeably.

Pump Gear – A pump gear may be the name meant for a gear used in equipment pumps. They contain both a driver and driven equipment and can become either spur or helical gears. Not to be confused, the term gear pump refers to the entire pump, while pump gears refers to the gears only. Gear pumps are positive displacement pumps, meaning they pump a continuous amount of fluid in each revolution. The volume of liquid in a revolution depends on the geometry of the pump gears (i.e. number of teeth, diametrical pitch, etc.).
Spline – Splines will be the ridges or teeth (exterior spline) on a drive shaft that mesh with the same quantity of like ridges or teeth (internal spline) in a mating piece with the goal of transferring torque from one member to the other. The most typical splines are parallel essential splines, Ground Helical Gear Racks involute splines (closely related to involute gears but with shorter teeth, root to tip), and serrations. Splines could be made by shaping, hobbing or broaching.
Sprocket – Sprockets, or sprocket wheels, are toothed wheels whose tooth engage the links of chains or belts. Sprockets are distinguished from gears in that sprockets should never be meshed together directly. There are several different types of sprockets, which includes silent chain, roller, and ladder sprockets.

Pinion Equipment – A pinion is the smaller of two meshed gears in an assembly. Pinions gears can be either spur or helical type gears, and become either the generating or driven gear, depending on the application. Pinion gears are used in many types of gearing systems such as for example ring and pinion or rack and pinion systems.
